DLP® Chipsets

DLi offers a full line of DLP® DMD Chipsets for Texas Instruments’ Discovery™ Development Kit EVM’s and Light Engines. The Digital Micro Mirror Device (DMD) is used to modulate the amplitude, direction and/or phase of incoming light (illumination).

A DMD is a digital imaging chip that reflects light to project and display patterns and images. It consists of a mirror array of up to 2 million, individually controlled, highly reflective aluminum micromirrors. This enables users to program high-speed, efficient programs of light. In other words, it lets you steer and control light!

The DLP® Chipsets include a DMD as well as its support chips: Micromirror Driver, DMD Digital Controller, & Configuration PROM. The support chips control and coordinate the data loading micro mirror switching to guarantee reliable operation. All DMD’s are optically efficient from 350 nm – 2500 nm. DLP® chipsets are also available in full EVM’s and development kits such as the Discovery D4100 and DLi41xx Kits, as well as the CEL5500 Light Engine.

DLP® Discovery™ 3000 Chipset

Ready to transition to the most recent Discovery platform? Take your project to the next level with the D4100.

For Discovery™ D3000 Kit users, we have the DLP® Discovery™ 3000 Chipset, which includes a 0.7″ XGA or 0.95″ SXGA+ DMD, the DDC3000 Digital Controller, and DAD1000 Power and Reset Driver. The chipset is optimized for both Visible and UV wavelengths and reaches DMD pattern rates up to 16,276 Hz with data rates up to 12.8 Gb/s.

On August 4th, 2016, Texas Instruments issued an end-of-life (EOL) announcement for the 0.7″ XGA 1xLVDS DMDs that are part of the Discovery D3000 and DLi3000 Development Kit platforms. For the DLi3000 Development Kit, the 0.7″ XGA 2xLVDS DMD has replaced the 0.7″ XGA 1xLVDS DMD.

DLP® Discovery™ 4100 Chipset

For those working on the Discovery™ D4100 and DLi41xx Bundle Series platforms, we carry the DLP® Discovery™ 4100 Chipset optimized for both Visible & UV wavelengths. To meet the need for high-speed, high resolution solutions, users can choose from two chipsets:  DLP700 0.7″ XGA and DLP9500 0.95″ 1080p.

The full chipset includes the DMD, DDC4100 Controller, and DAD2000 Power & Reset Driver support chips. The DDC4100 Controller provides high-speed 32/64 bit LVDS data and control user interface to the DMD and DAD2000. The DAD2000 DMD Power & Reset Driver generates reset control of 16 banks of DMD mirrors and supports high reset frequencies. With the DLP®  4100 Chipset, users can reach binary image pattern rates up to 32,552 Hz/290 Hz 8-bit grayscale with data rates up to 51.2 Gbit/s.

DLP® 5500 0.55″ XGA S450 Chipset

The DLP® 5500 Chipset features the S-450 0.55″ XGA DMD from TI and also includes the DLPC200 Controller, & DLPA200 DMD Driver.  The DLP®5500 Chipset is featured in our CEL5500 Family of Compact Embeddable Light Engines.

The small, compact physical size of the S450 DMD enables integration into portable equipment like the CEL5500 and is specifically designed for Structured Light applications such as Machine Vision, 3D Scanning, Medical Imaging, Microscopy, & Maskless Lithography. The S450 DMD reaches binary pattern rates up to 5,000 Hz/500Hz 8-bit grayscale/60Hz video.

The 0.55″ XGA Series 450 DMD uses an orthogonal pixel orientation and is optimized for NIR & Visible wavelengths. The DMD consists of a 2-dimensional array of CMOS memory cells, organized in a square grid of 1024 memory cell columns by 768 rows. The mirror array is written to on a column x column basis over a 16-bit low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) double data rate (DDR) bus.

DLP® 6500 / DLP® 9000 High-Resolution Chipsets

DLi and Texas Instruments (TI) are proud to announce the new LightCrafter 6500 & 9000 EVM’s. Both LightCrafter EVM’s are released as part of the new high-resolution program based around the multi-functional DLPC900 DMD controller. The DLPC900 is a single scalable DMD controller that supports reliable operation of three high resolution DMD chips: DLP6500FLQ, DLP6500FYE, and DLP9000FLS.

This high performance DMD controller enables programmable, high speed pattern rates for advanced light control especially in industrial, medical and scientific applications. DLPC900 pattern rates enable fast and accurate 3D scanning and 3D printing, as well as support high resolution and intelligent imaging applications.

DLPC900 offers 128MB of embedded DRAM for convenient storage of up to 400 1-bit patterns. Input and output triggers are offer easy connection and synchronization with a variety of cameras, sensors or other peripherals. Numerous ports and connectivity options offer system flexibility and simplify chip integration into a variety of end equipment.The scalable DLPC900 controller supports both the DLP6500 .65″ 1080p and DLP9000 .90″ WQXGA DMDs for high resolution industrial and display applications.

DLP® 6500 .65″ 1080p S600 Chipset

The DLP® 6500 1080p platform is available in two DMD types:  S600 and Type-A. Featuring over 2 million micromirrors, the high resolution 0.65 1080p digital micromirror device (DMD) is a spatial light modulator (SLM) that modulates the amplitude, direction, and/or phase of incoming light. The unique capability offered by the DLP6500FYE makes it well suited to support a wide variety of industrial, medical, and advanced imaging applications. Reliable function and operation of the DLP6500FYE requires that it be used in conjunction with the DLPC900 digital controller. This dedicated chipset provides full HD resolution at high speeds and can be easily integrated into a variety of end equipment solutions.

The LightCrafter 6500 S600 enables users to reach pattern rates up to 9,253Hz binary and 250Hz 8-bit grayscale. For easy control, the LCR6500 EVM includes a user-friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) that enables users to deploy the LCR6500 right out of the box without the need for extensive programming. For developing custom applications, the LCR6500 includes the DLPC900 Application Programming Interface (API). Input and output triggers are offer easy connection and synchronization with a variety of cameras, sensors or other peripherals. Numerous ports and connectivity options offer system flexibility and simplify chip integration into a variety of end equipment.

DLP® 6500 .65″ 1080p TYPE-A Chipset

Featuring over 2 million micromirrors in a hermetic package, the high resolution 0.65 1080p digital micromirror device (DMD) is a spatial light modulator (SLM) that modulates the amplitude, direction, and/or phase of incoming light. The unique capability and value offered by the DLP6500FLQ, including operation at 405nm, makes it well suited to support a wide variety of industrial, medical, and advanced imaging applications. Reliable function and operation of the DLP6500FLQ requires that it be used in conjunction with the DLPC900 digital controller. This dedicated chipset provides full HD resolution at high speeds and can be easily integrated into a variety of end equipment solutions

DLP® 9000 WQXGA Type-A Chipset

The DLP® LightCrafter™ 9000 is a high performance and highly flexible development kit for incorporating DLP technology into a wide variety light steering applications. This EVM is an easy path for solutions maximizing resolution, optical throughput and brightness. Featuring over 4 million micromirrors, the high resolution 0.9 WQXGA digital micromirror device (DMD) is a spatial light modulator (SLM) that modulates the amplitude, direction, and/or phase of incoming light. This advanced light control technology has numerous applications in the industrial, medical, and consumer markets.

The DLP9000 enables bigger build sizes and fine resolution for 3D printing applications. The high resolution has the direct benefit of scanning larger objects for 3D machine vision applications. Reliable function and operation of the DLP9000 requires that it be used in conjunction with two DLPC900 digital controllers. This dedicated chipset provides a robust, high resolution WQXGA, and high speed system solution.

At the heart of LightCrafter 9000 is a DLP chipset comprising of: DLP9000 – Digital Micro-mirror Device (DMD) & DLPC900 – DMD digital controller. The DLP9000 offers true HD resolution, 2560×1600, or over 4 million programmable micromirrors.

The DLPC900 enables impressive pattern rates up to 9,523Hz.  These high rates enable real time 3D machine vision measurements, faster 3D printing builds, and more accurate digital light exposures with competitive cycle times in industrial markets. DLPC900 also offers designers maximum flexibility to format and sequence light patterns, which can easily be controlled via the graphical user interface. The DLP LightCrafter 9000 allows for a configurable input/output trigger for convenient synchronization with cameras, sensors, or other peripheral devices.  The added flexibility enables diverse architectures for industrial, medical, security, telecom, and instrumentation applications.
